Day Thirty: Weight Loss God’s Way

In our last WOD (workout of the day) together…let’s do HAPPY!

But first let’s talk about happiness.

The world is consumed by the pursuit of happiness.  We try a little bit of this and a little bit of that hoping to GET happy.  “You deserve to be happy”….oh what a dangerous saying.  In the echoes of that statement marriages implode, careers get trashed, and bodies go under the knife.

Solomon was the wisest and richest man to ever live.  He went on the ultimate pursuit of happiness; sex, wine, food, money, knowledge, and power were all his for the taking.  And in the end he found it all empty and lacking.  Sound familiar to your fitness pursuits?

Happiness is elusive…but joy…joy sticks through thick and thin.  Joy is not an emotion, because emotions come and go.  Joy is a reality.  Like the earth requires a gravitational pull, and our lungs expect oxygen, the people of God are supplied with joy.  Joy is rock solid because it’s founded on The Rock and found IN The Rock.

Joy is found in God alone.  And God isn’t going anywhere.

“If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.  I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete.” John 15:10-11

The root word for joy comes from the Greek word, “Chairo,” and it means to be glad, to rejoice exceedingly, to be WELL, to THRIVE.  Chairo is the same Greek root word for grace.  Do you see?  Grace alone, the gift of God, makes and keeps us well.  Grace is God’s favor towards us even though we have done nothing to earn his favor.  Yup…that’s a reason for great rejoicing…great JOY!

In today’s workout I want you to forget all about happiness and go for the real thing…the JOY of the Lord.  Joy is totally capable of holding hands with pain.  That’s why workouts don’t make us happier; they make us more joyful.  MORE of who we were created to be; people who can overcome hard things because God has overcome our weaknesses with the gift of his grace.

In order to keep this wholeness train moving long after our time together, you are going to need your joy to move to the front of the bus where Jesus is seated. It’s going to need to be your strength on the days when it would be much easier to jump on the next fad diet bandwagon.

TRAIN:

  • Find a bible verse that speaks to YOU today about JOY
  • Do this warm up from VIPtv
  • Do 25 air squats
  • READ your verse
  • Do 15 push-ups
  • READ your verse
  • Do 30 seconds of high knees (low impact…keep one foot on the floor)
  • READ your verse
  • DO THIS “HAPPY” VIDEO
  • One minute plank hold
  • READ your verse
  • REPEAT 2x’s (optional)

TIME: 20-40 minutes

PRAYER:

Thank you God that you love it when I laugh.  Thank you that you love it when I am happy.  Even more than more moments of happiness I thank you for lasting joy.  Please remind me that joy is not an emotion but an action.  You initiated joy when you moved towards me to call me your own.  I want to live a life filled with joy even when things seem hard and painful.  Please use the movement of my body to stir up your unquenchable joy for me and for others.  Come and train my joy. – Amen
