Day Twenty Five: Weight Loss God’s Way

Day Twenty Five: Weight Loss God’s Way

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.  Galatians 5:21-22

The Gospels often talk about fruit…fruit that our lives will produce when we are living lives in Christ.

Fruit is organic and no two pieces of fruit ever look exactly alike.  They might taste the same but they don’t look the same.  Some pieces have more bumps, dents, or are more uniquely shaped.  But that doesn’t make once a piece of meat and the other a fruit.  They are both still fruit.

Fruit trees know how to work.  You never see a fruit tree bearing down and trying to produce fruit.  If a healthy root system is in place the fruit just comes.  A fruit tree goes in and out of season.  Though a tree may look dead in the winter, it’s not dead.  It’s storing up energy for the work of producing a new crop in the spring.

The goal of our Weight Loss God’s Way 31 days together is to get you training your heart, mind, soul, and strength for a new direction.  If you stay on the path and keep following this new direction, fruit will be evident in your life.  I can’t promise you that it will look like six-pack abs, smaller thighs, or the body you have always dreamed of having.  In fact…that body you have dreamed of may be an idol.  (Like we talked about in our training session on Day 19… the thing you think will give you peace and satisfaction.)  You’re going to need to put that perfect body on the altar too.  The truth is…there is no perfect.  There is only progress.  Our progress is marked by moving towards freedom, health, and wholeness so we can get on with living our lives to the full and having overflow for others in need.

Let us not forget we have been created for mission.  This whole 31 days together is about getting you fit for your mission; to receive the love of God that makes and keeps you whole and to give away that same love to others who are just as busted up and as broken as you once were and still are.  This is not about us!  This was, is and will always be about God.  It is always the right time for us to get over ourselves and get on with the good life that God says is already ours.

Nice try Satan.  We are on to you and your selfish ways.

I want to ask you now to stop and recheck your motivations.  Did you get distracted?  Are you trying to get something from God other than freedom, joy, and peace?  Who cut in on you while you were running such a good race?  (Galatians 5:7)

Living well in our physical lives (better food choices and moving our bodies) will produce more fruit in our inner lives.  These 31 days are about training up our obedience to do the right thing.  The better thing.  The reward is the fruit of the Spirit.

God is interested in turning you into a kind of a fruit tree.  So that everywhere you go you are dropping love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control on everyone you encounter each day.

Jesus says himself that if we abide in him we will bear much fruit, but apart from him we can do nothing. (John 15:5)

Change your heart first!  Your body will eventually catch up.  Keep your eyes off the pools you think will heal you.  (Read John 5.)  Pools like thinner thighs, a lower number on the scale, or less jiggle when you walk.  Fix your eyes on the pioneer and perfecter of your faith.  And keep them there!  Get your eyes off your stomach and open your ears to what the gentle, but firm, Spirit of the Lord is saying to you.  He’s always speaking.  Listen.

God the Father says, “Love (worship) me.”  Jesus the Son of God says, “Follow me.”  And the Holy Spirit of God says, “Listen to me.”  Our WHOLE lives (body, soul, heart and mind) must remain under submission to these three-in-one entities, now and forever.  Amen.

Take a look at list of the fruit of the Spirit again: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control.  Ask the Spirit of God to tell you which one you are lacking in.  Whichever word you are led to, say out loud several times…right now.  Next take a verbal authoritative stance and say “I am the daughter (or son) of the King most high.  I receive______ for myself and give others _________everywhere I go.”  Say it like you mean it.  Say it like it is who you are but your body and circumstances just haven’t caught up with the truth…yet!  When you are having a bad day, when your weaknesses are starting to show…come back to this list, find the fruit you need, and call it down into your life!  Ohhhh…now that’s some serious training.  The kingdom of darkness can’t stand this kind of faith.  A faith that is certain of what it hopes for before it can see the hope fulfilled.

TIME: 2-3 minutes a day, as needed.

FREQUENCY: AMRAP (as many rounds as possible ) as needed, when needed.

Holy Spirit, come into my life and grow me.  I confess I have tried to grow my own roots in very shallow soil.  I come to you now and ask you to deposit into me the fullness of your Spirit and plant me firmly and deeply in you, close to the living water.  Make my life complete and make it produce good fruit in abundance.– Amen
