Day 21 – #21daysofthanks

Day 21 – #21daysofthanks

Reflect on the 21 days of The Gratitude Challenge and what this process has meant to you.

I have learnt so much about why gratitude is important:

  • It helps you focus your attention on what is right – moving your energy away from what is wrong or upsetting you.
  • You cannot be grateful or stressed at the same time – gratitude changes you, it helps you relax and to breathe.
  • And being thankful is God’s will for us – whatever circumstances we are in.
  • It humbles us – being thankful for dire circumstances helps us to realise we are merely human, and we need God’s guidance to help us through this life.

It’s actually physiologically impossible to be stressed and thankful at the same time.  When you are grateful you flood your body and brain with emotions and endorphins that uplift and energize you rather than the stress hormones that drain you.  Ref here.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 KJV

In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

They are two words that have the power to transform our health, happiness, athletic performance and success.  Research shows that grateful people are happier and more likely to maintain good friendships.  A state of gratitude, according to research by the Institute of HeartMath, also improves the heart’s rhythmic functioning, which helps us to reduce stress, think more clearly under pressure and heal physically.  It’s actually physiologically impossible to be stressed and thankful at the same time.  When you are grateful you flood your body and brain with emotions and endorphins that uplift and energize you rather than the stress hormones that drain you.  Ref here.

So keep on giving thanks!  I will revisit this #21daysofthanks again as I have realised how important it is to give thanks.  Every day.
